Scienze computazionali e energia sostenibile: borsa di Dottorato @UniBolzano

PhD position focusing on the development of fast, parallel matrix solvers to tackle the computational challenges in thermonuclear fusion simulations. Fusion energy holds the promise of clean, sustainable energy, but modeling plasma behavior inside reactors such as Tokamaks requires solving highly complex and large-scale mathematical problems. Our project aims to significantly improve the efficiency of these simulations by advancing state-of-the-art computational techniques.   The successful candidate will work on designing novel matrix solvers optimized for parallel computing architectures (e.g., multi-core CPUs, GPUs) using MPI and CUDA libraries. The project will also explore machine learning (ML) methods to speed up specific operations in these solvers, such as preconditioning and matrix compression, helping reduce computational time and memory usage.
